The next weekend
brought the annual CASI chili cook-off in
Converse, TX. There was a great turnout, with 66 cooks, the most
there has ever been for this cook-off! Not too much to brag
about, Brent
got 6th place in chili and Becky was 3rd in beans. The next day
brought
a new chili cook-off. Becky didn't cook and the best Brent could
manage
was final table. It was quite a trip back to home base as a tire
shredded
it's rubber on the RV and managed to tear up the electrical wiring in
the process. RV went to the shop for repair and the team was out
of commission for about two weeks.
The second weekend in February was the 11th annual Live Oak
County
Boys & Girls Club Wild Hog Cook-Off. While they've maintained the
name, the cook-off is now sanctioned by IBCA and doesn't offer a
wild hog category any longer. It now consists of chicken, ribs,
pulled pork and brisket categories. The team had a short trip, just
about
three miles from home to participate in this cook-off. Just because it
was
close to home certainly didn't mean we had home-field advantage! It
was good to cook close to home, and several local friends came out as well
as a few from our chili world. They really seemed to enjoy the BBQ,
but the
judges, well...not so much. Final table with brisket was the best we
pulled off.
